Well, well, well. So 2011 started. If you read my last post, I thought it started out good. Well just a few days later our world was turned upside down. On Friday January 7th at 3am we were awoke to smoke alarms and a smoke filled house. Luckily all of us made it out safely and are here to speak about it. It was one of the scariest experiences in my life. I try to see the silver lining in every moment and hope to take from this how important life really is. You never know when it will be your last day and we have to make the most of it while we are here. We only have one life. Don't let it go to waste! Wake up and enjoy it :-)
Now that I've stepped off my soap box... The renovations at the house are going well but we are currently waiting for the windows and are thus at a standstill. We are completely done inventorying everything in the house and they have removed all the carpets, appliances, bath tub, counters, etc. It looks very bare! All the windows are being replaced except for 2 and after they are put in they will be able to prime and paint everything before getting new counter tops, bath tub, carpet, and appliances. It is amazing how much everything just soaks up that smoke. A lot of our clothes didn't make it either which is really discouraging as it is more to inventory and more to replace.
We are currently staying at Bob's sisters' house. She hasn't lived here for about 2 years now but it is still fully furnished. We are very thankful we have a place to stay and are not cooped up with wild man in the hotel room for 2 months. I say 2 months, because we are hoping to be back in our house the beginning of March. My hope is to be in by Keyon's birthday on the 8th. Although the house is great, it just isn't home and we are often bored. We got Keyon a few toys but didn't want to have to move too many when we are able to go back to the house.
Unfortunately Kelley's furnace crapped the bed last week and we were left without heat during 30 below temps. She does have a wood burner right next to her furnace that can be used to heat the house, but we are little shy with wood burning at the moment (and unsure of the last time it was used). The first night the furnace went out, I spent the evening resetting the furnace every 9 minutes so the house would at least stay at 53 degrees until morning when we could call someone to come fix it. I made it til 3am before having Bob get up and take the second shift. They weren't able to fix it for a few days (had to order a part) so we ended up staying in a hotel this past weekend. Bob had to leave for New Mexico for work on Monday so it has just been Keyon and I all week. Hopefully our life is back to normal... well at least as normal as it's going to get :-)
Classes started this past week as well so I am busy getting back into the swing of things with school. Other than that just trying to slow down and enjoy life! Hope 2011 has started out a little better for the rest of you...
