The House Tour: Living Room

Hello all, hope you enjoyed getting a glimpse of Keyon's room.  Next up on the tour is the living room.  We spend a good amount of time in this room so I love the fact it is really open and inviting.  Usually Keyon has several toys in the living room spread all out, but I thought I'd give you the clean look :-)  Just this morning we had cars all over the couch and coloring pages and markers on the table.  I want you all to believe I live in a perfect home and have a perfect life.  Ha!  Just kidding.  Without further delay... the living room!
This is what you see standing in the dining room.  Remi is also a nice piece of furniture :-)
Close up of the couch.  Ignore the tacky window air conditioner.
Keeping us cool til the central air is hooked up.
My gorgeous hope chest from Grandma and Grandpa.  Luckily it survived the fire and they were able to clean it too.  It is one of my favorite pieces of furniture I own.
View from sitting on the couch.  Remi didn't smile for the picture like I asked.
View of our front yard and a little bit of landscaping in the middle.  Favorite part of the living room are these two big windows.  The first thing I do every morning is open the blinds on these.  I love the light they give off.  Very cheery!
Just another view of the windows
This is one of the few projects I have done for the house.  I free-handed this on the mirror with paint for a little more jazz.  They definitely add to the natural light.
My three boxes I made (covered) are holding up great.  Notice the Netflix movies.. we are a sucker for good movies here.  Love Netflix!  My candle holder is in need of more candles, keep forgetting to pick some more up.  Candle holder was a find at Goodwill!  Fits perfect in that spot under the TV.
Another view out our windows.  The two candle sticks are from Goodwill and the picture is of Bob's niece.

Hope you enjoyed the living room.  Compared to what we had before the fire, the walls are VERY bare.  I am slowly finding things I like for the house to put on the walls.  It just takes a bit because I am not willing to spend a lot of money when I know I can find things I like for CHEAP.  Also, we just got back the last few things they were trying to clean from the fire and a few of the pictures from the living room were in there.  So hopefully they will find themselves back on the wall soon.  Other than that, we live a pretty simple life and enjoy the simplicity of our house too.  The less clutter, the better in my mind!

Paint it Black

The pool is up and running!  Keyon and I even sported our swimsuits yesterday afternoon.  I never got in the pool but Keyon jumped in and played around the pool for a good hour or so.  The water was still a bit chilly for me, but you know kids.  I ordered the solar cover today and should be here tomorrow so that should warm it up a bit until the temps outside stay warm consistently.

This weekend Bob and I were working outside and trying to get the pool pump and filter all hooked up when Mr. Keyon went missing.  It was only for about 3 minutes, but that is a long time for a 3 year old to find trouble.  Previous to working outside Bob was painting the front door.  You can see where this is going...

That's right Mr. Keyon decided to do a little painting himself.  This looks a lot better than it was when I found him.  Bob cleaned it up a bit by spreading the paint around with the roller.  At least he didn't decide to paint the carpet or the dog.  Needless to say I will be repainting the door sometime, until then I get to enjoy Keyon's handy work.

Stay tuned for the next part of the house tour... the living room! :-)

The House Tour Begins!

First up on the house tour... Keyon's room!  I have slowly been decorating and put things up on the wall, but Keyon's room has definitely been the most neglected in this department.  The only decoration up is the letters of his name I painted that sit above his closet.  His room before the fire had streamers and all sorts of pictures and decorations on the wall.  Someday we'll get back to that.  Until then, enjoy the bare room!

The only decor I have up in the room.

This is what you see when you walk into KW's room.
Two walls are a light blue and the other two are white.  Very basic.

This is a view of his toys and book case.  He loves books!  I am always looking at rummage sales and thrift stores for good books to add to his collection.  We also check out quite a few at the library every couple weeks.

This is the other side of the room.  When we moved back in we bought him a Jr. Loft bed.  Cutest thing ever!  Keyon loves it and it keeps him safe being only about 3ft off the ground and railing all around.  Also, great spot to play underneath.  I have seen others put a curtain or fabric all around the bottom to make it kind of like a fort.  Might do something like that in the future.
Here is a close up of my cutie-patootie!  What a smile :-)
And finally here is a view from the other side looking towards the door.  I just cleaned and organized his toys again today so that is why it looks like he doesn't every play in there!  :-)  He usually has his trucks all over or cars dumped all out to play with.  He's definitely all boy!

Hope you enjoyed a glimpse into our home!

I love you MORE!

This is why I love being a mom.  Keyon and I had an "I love you more" war today.  Which was Keyon and I saying we love each other more and trying to "win".  He is such a sweetheart!  He absolutely melts my heart.  Being a mother is one of the greatest gifts in life.

It has finally started to warm up around here.  We had a gorgeous weekend and an even more gorgeous week ahead of us.  I wish we had the pool up and ready!! :-(  They were supposed to put it up Memorial Day but it ended up not working out.  So, they are scheduled to be here Thursday.  I can't wait!  I am literally a kid in a candy store excited about it.  I am a little nervous because I have no idea what I am doing when maintaining/taking care of a pool.  I am going to go talk to someone in the pool business tomorrow or Wednesday that will hopefully have some good tips and give me a bit more confidence.  One of our neighbors have a pool and I spoke with them a bit already so they will be helpful as well.

As only a few of you have been to my house, I have decided to do a mini house tour on my blog.  So look for a tour of the first room this week!  :-)  Also, a peek at a few of the things I have been doing around the house.  Who knew I was so crafty?!

Happy Monday!

Midnight Sna... err, Poop

**Disclaimer:  The first paragraph is about poop so you have been warned.  :-)

Last night Keyon woke up crying around 2:30.  He was upside down in bed and so I went to put him back on his pillow when he yelled, "I have to poop!"  This is the second time he has woken up in the middle of the night and had to use the restroom.  It is so strange!

Keyon and I have been enjoying the warm weather.  Lake Michigan stays pretty cold so a trip to the beach was out of the question this early in the summer.  I was hoping since it was after Memorial day the local pool would be open but no such luck.  So mister Keyon got to run through the sprinkler.  He was delighted.  We also had a picnic outside yesterday for lunch and he was tickled pink about it.  Such great joy to see him get so excited about the littlest things!  Other than that not much new on the home front.

I have a new exciting feature for my blog.  As you can see on the top right you can enter your e-mail address and have my new posts delivered right to your inbox.  Than you don't have to worry about checking back on the blog all the time to see if I have posted.  It will send you an e-mail confirmation and you must click on it or it won't sign you up.  Don't worry no spam, so please sign up!

Chalkboard and Jewelry

Right before the fire, Christmas to be exact Robert bought me this beautiful jewelry amoire.  It was free standing (didn't sit on top of the dresser or anything) and I loved it.  Well, then life happened.  I bought it on Black Friday on a killer deal so there was no way I was going to replace it for full cost after the fire.  So I was on the look out for something cheap and practical.  In one of my many trips to the thrift stores I did happen to find one that I liked.  It was an oak color and I decided to spray paint it.  It turned out great... but, it was just too darn big!  It took up almost half of the top of the dresser.  So technically speaking it took up my 'half' of the dresser.  So it was just not going to work.  So after another trip to the thrift store and $1.99 later this is what I got...
BEFORE
Nothing to exciting right.... Well... a little spray paint, holes drilled, and wire becomes...

AFTER
This didn't fit any of my necklaces so I ended up having to do something else with that.  I actually removed a piece from the big jewelry box I was getting rid of and placed it directly on the wall.  Basically it was a small piece of wood with hooks for the necklaces.  Sorry no dramatic picture of that :-)

Can't complain for a buck 99 though!

Also, Keyon loves to draw with chalk and frankly so do I :-)  so I wanted to put a chalk board in the house.  They make the coolest thing ever... spray chalkboard paint!  (They also have brush on but spray is wayyyy better)
So my, $1.49 picture became my new chalkboard.

 AFTER

Well, Keyon and I have to run to town. Hope you enjoyed seeing what I've been up to lately :-)

Hello sunshine!

Even though it was just another day, I did have a wonderful birthday.  Since Bobby left Sunday, we have been trying to keep busy and not miss daddy too much.  It's not working very good because we still miss him bunches!  I don't remember it being this hard last year.  Well, actually I do.  And if it wasn't for the house fire we might have had a better chance of Bob finding a different job.  But, I guess life happens sometimes!

Keyon and I have been spending our time outside every chance we get and I am anxiously awaiting for it to get really hot out.  Yes, I really said that.  We will finally have our pool up and running this year, so that is where you will find Mr. Keyon and I.  It will be nice not having to go to town to the beach or the pool all the time this summer.  Especially with the price of gas!  I could not believe it was $4.19 today.  This is ridiculous!

My semester is almost over and going really well.  I should finish very strong with all A's and one B.  So happy to have the summer off but wish they offered the last couple classes I need to finish.  But again, I will take what I can get.  I would much rather be doing it this way then driving to Green Bay everyday or living somewhere else and not being able to be a part of Keyon's life like I am.

In closing, here are a few pictures of the little man welcoming summer and warm weather!   Enjoy  :-)

Mmm... ice cream!  We love going to a local ice cream shop on the shore of Lake Michigan.
First day bringing out the shorts!  Lookin' good!
What a pose!  Showing off his bed and shorts.
